Aquaponics at The Arc of Meriden-Wallingford visited by CT Governor & Commissioners
Governor Malloy, Agriculture Commissioner Reviczky & Developmental Services Commissioner Macy visit the new aquaponics program at The Arc of Meriden-Wallingford on 3/1/12. Worms, fish, water and a lot of hard work combine to grow fresh vegetables year round that will support The Arc Eatery, catering and daily meals for consumers of The Arc Meriden-Wallingford. Meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities will result. Sister Arcs are exploring similar projects and The Arc CT hopes that the State of CT will consider investment options in aquaponics and similar programs, which contribute to sustainable agriculture in CT, reduce food costs for DDS funded programs, promote healthy living, promote employment and independence, as well as support nonprofits that have faced chronic underfunding.         Gov.
